Dual Study and its importance

Dual Study and its importance

Dual studies are a new form of study which combines theoretical academic training with practical work exposure so the students can get the best of both worlds and reap their benefits. German universities believe that the practical application of theoretical knowledge is as important as gaining the knowledge itself.

The benefits of dual learning are enormous. Here we highlight the important ones:

  • Two certificates with double qualifications from both practical and theoretical learning
  • Students are considered highly specialized in their field as they have practical exposure as well
  • Students leave with a well-built network including university students, alumni base, and company employees

  • After taking out expenses for the students’ education, companies often have an interest in employing them more permanently.
  • Even if they are not hired or don’t want to continue in that organization, graduates can present an excellent and convincing resume to future employers.
  • Last but certainly not least, students of dual programs receive a good salary throughout their studies and thus have to worry less about financial issues.

Formalities for foreign students

The international students though have to go through a complicated procedure to get into the German universities, the benefits they reap do surely make up for them. The documents required are:

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. Motivation Letter
  3. Photo
  4. Diploma/ High School Degree Certificate
  5. Certificate of acceptance in a German University
  6. 6. Proof of sufficient German language skills– (certificate of higher German language skills)

All the Other secondary educational institution diplomas need to be tested and approved. On top of that, you have to clarify details on the visa process, as well as on whether all your documents will be recognized by Germany. Unfortunately, this does not only sound complicated but requires lots of work, time and effort.

Dual studies give the double burden especially since it’s a new country while offering a unique experience. Both, the company and the University expect the students to successfully manage the timeline of the study program.

What is not burdening for international students is the finances as in 2014, Germany’s 16 states abolished tuition fees for undergraduate students at all the public German universities. This means that currently, both domestic and international undergraduates at public universities in Germany can study for free, with just a very small fee to cover administration and other necessary costs per semester.
